It can be difficult to proceed with applying for capital dredge projects when the prospect of potentially years of planning and data gathering could still result in application rejection. This workshop is appropriate for those currently in the planning stages of their project. 11:00 - 14:00 Workshop B: Strategies for managing out-sourced dredging contractors to reduce project lead-time

This workshop is for asset owners who don’t have the resources to run dredging projects in-house from start to finish and must out-source certain phases of the project, such as environmental assessment, engineering consultation or construction. By properly managing dredging contractors projects are more likely to be completed on time and with little monetary waste.

The workshop will cover:
  • Ensuring in-house management works closely with outsourced contractors to prevent miscommunication and non-compliance
  • Creating a detailed budget within contract conditions in order to guarantee cost-efficiency
  • Techniques for successfully choosing the right contractors during the employment phase
  • Resolving non-compliance quickly when it does occur to reduce repeat breaches in contract

14:00 - 16:30 Workshop C: Stakeholder management: Involving external stake-holders in decision-making processes to reduce appeals and improve public relations

Stakeholder and community endorsement of a dredging project is crucial to its approval from regulatory bodies and throughout the projects construction phase. This workshop will be useful to those who have had difficulties with stakeholder support in the past. Whether it be through the appeals process during project assessment, protesting during the construction phase or disapproval with past dredging activities, good public relations is key in resolving community and stakeholder disputes.

This workshop will cover:
  • Pinpointing key issues stakeholders and community members may have with the dredging project
  • Establishing a platform to discuss beneficial uses of dredging and reclamation
  • Building an environment of trust by resolving past disputes that may exist with past dredging projects
  • Opening channels of communication between community stakeholders and project managers
